English Grammar – Past Perfect Tense
If two tasks have happened in the past and one task has ended much earlier than the other, then the past perfect tense is used for the first task.
Rules of Past Perfect Tense
Subject + had + V3

| उन्होंने मुझे आराम करने की सलाह दी है। | He has advised me to take rest. |
| मैंने उसकी अनुमति ले ली थी। | I had taken his permission. |
| हम में से पाँच वहाँ गए थे। | Five of us had gone there. |
| घंटी बजने से पहले मैं स्कूल पहुँच गया था। | I had reached school before the bell rang. |
| उसके आते ही मैं वहां से निकल गया था। | I had left the place when he came. |
| जब हम वहाँ पहुँचे, रात का खाना शुरू हो चुका था। | When we reached there, the dinner had started. |
| पुलिस के आने पर वह वहां से निकल गया था। | He had left the place when police came. |
| डॉक्टर के आने से पहले ही मरीज की मौत हो चुकी थी। | The patient had died before the doctor came. |
| हम बहुत पहले पहुँच चुके थे। | We had reached much earlier. |
| मैंने अपना काम पहले ही पूरा कर लिया था। | I had already completed my work. |
